Health and Safety

We recognise that our employees are our most valuable asset and that they are faced with challenging environments every single day on the road networks throughout the island of Ireland and the UK. That is why we put the safety of people who work for, with and around us first.

Health and safety management

We implement vigilant health and safety management and operating procedures. Risk assessments and safe working procedures are implemented for all works.  Additionally, specialist and general health and safety, vocational training and qualifications are implemented for all staff taking part in the works. All plant, vehicles, kit and equipment used are appropriate for the works being undertaken and comply with works standards such as Chapter 8.

Employee safety and training

We cultivate a culture of safety across all Lagan O&M Business Units, from directors to ground operatives. Our number one priority is to safeguard our employees and subcontractors that work with us. This is supported through our extensive occupational health provision and mental health and wellbeing programmes. The provision of a high level safety training and safe working procedures are integral to achieving our Stay Safe policy whereby all staff stay safe for themselves, their families and their colleagues.

Compliance standards

We maintain the necessary resources for the successful implementation of our health and safety management standards which will, as a minimum, comply with relevant statutory legislation and conform to BS ISO 45001:2018.

Quality

At Lagan O&M, we adopt and implement the quality principle of ‘Right First Time’ during execution of all our contracts. Quality is key to achieving this vision and acts as the beacon to the delivery of products and services that are safe, compliant and preferred by our customers. 

Quality management system and compliance

We implement a quality management system set out within the integrated management system. As a minimum, this complies with all relevant statutory legislation, industry best practice and conforms with the requirements of BS EN IS09001:2015 whilst satisfying client and stakeholder requirements.

Quality assurance

We believe that a policy of quality assurance is necessary to guarantee our customers a consistently high level of service that fully meets their requirements. Our quality management system has been formulated and will be the main guide to achieving and maintaining a safe and high-quality service.

Environmental

We acknowledge our direct impact on the natural and human environments in which we work. Through our environmental policy and procedures, we aim to continually assess the environmental implications of our activities and actively seek the cooperation of clients, sub-contractors, suppliers, and team in minimising adverse effects.

Environmental management system

Our environmental management system is designed to comply with the requirements of the BS EN ISO 14001:2015 standard and is appropriate to the nature, scale and environmental impacts of all our activities.

Responsibilities of leadership staff

Directors, management and supervisory staff have responsibilities for the implementation of our environmental policy and will ensure environmental issues are given adequate consideration during all business activities.
