Dew Piling get to work at Cross Rail in London!

05 Jun 2012

Dew Piling have completed 2 contracts on the prestigious Cross Rail Project in Central London, one for Morgan Sindall at Pudding Mill Lane and another for the Sisk/Dragados JV at Limmo Peninsula on Section C305.

The work for Morgan Sindall involved providing temporary works to allow the main contractor to carry out his permanent works. These works were designed by Dew Piling in Oldham. Due to the proximity of a Thames Water water main the piles had to be installed using a vibrationless system, this was done with a pile press.

The work for Sisk/Dragados involved the design of temporary sheet piled walls to support an auxiliary shaft for the lowering of the tunnel boring machine. The contract started in January 2012 with the crew and 19M RTG rig pre-augering the ground and then installing sheet piles up to 18m in length, the piles were driven to the final position with a CX 85 hammer suspended from the Lagan Plant Kobelco CKE 700 crawler crane.

“This mammoth project has already delivered thousands of skilled jobs in London, and once complete will create significant extra capacity to help people travel around this great city, dramatically reducing journey times to support the economic resilience of our capital over decades to come. Crossrail is set to build upon the transport benefits Londoners are already seeing as a result of the Neo-Victorian level of investment that has flowed from the Olympics and the upgrades being delivered on the Tube.”
Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London commented on the Cross Rail Scheme (in the recent press)

Both contracts were successfully completed and this has assisted Dew Piling in securing another 2 contracts with Sisk/Dragados on Cross Rail at Pudding Mill and Ham Sewer again in Central London.
