LAGAN CONSTRUCTION IS AWARDED £50 MILLION ENERGY FROM WASTE CONTRACT IN CARDIFF

Northern Ireland firm Lagan Construction Ltd will deliver £50M of Civil Engineering work on a new Energy from Waste plant (EFW) in Cardiff which has an overall value of £185M. Lagan Construction will work in Joint Venture with the French-based process company CNIM to design and build the new facility for Viridor Waste Management Limited.

The location of the EFW plant is on a 4.5 hectares site within Trident Park which is situated 1.6 kilometres to the south-east of Cardiff City Centre and north of the Cardiff Docks. The new state-of-the-art facility will have the capacity for approximately 350,000 tonnes per annum of residual Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and Commercial and Industrial Waste (C&I), which will be sourced from within the South-East Wales area. All of the waste accepted at the facility will be non-hazardous.

The facility will incorporate modern reliable and well understood technologies and will be designed in accordance with the latest standards will employ Best Available Techniques.

The civil engineering elements which will be carried out in this prestigious contract represent approximately 25% of the contract value.

Lagan Construction is already working on site on another large EfW Contract in Suffolk where work is well underway.

Works are due to commence in May 2012 with an estimated completion in early 2014.
