Incident response time

24-hour

On an annual basis, our onsite staff engage in scheduled vegetation maintenance and weed control maintaining grass verges, wooded areas and sightlines. Where required, we engage select professional sub-contractors to carry out specialist works such as repairs to damaged barriers, maintenance of the lighting and signage as well as the cleaning and monitoring of emergency roadside telephones and other communications systems.

During winter conditions, our experienced onsite team provide monitoring of weather conditions and carry out salt spreading and snow clearance treatments as required, both preplanned and in reaction to surprise weather events. Treatment decisions are made by interpreting weather forecasts from onsite weather stations and preparing and executing treatment plans on a daily basis.

The team also ensure that road drainage, gully emptying and sweeping of the site are carried out on a regular basis with sludge removal, pond maintenance and roadkill removal also covered by the staff on site. Our staff provide a 24-hour incident response on the M8 which covers road incidents, incident reaction management, liaising with emergency services, site clearance and vehicle removal.

Local Authority Road Maintenance

Lagan Operations and Maintenance are engaged by local authorities in the southern region to carry out a host of key functions which enable the authorities to complete their own works programmes in a timely and professional manner each year.

As LOM staff are all trained to work on the high speed networks the local authorities regularly task the company with completing litter pick, pothole repair, drainage and verge cutting works on the National Routes with macadam overlay contracts and street cleaning works also being undertaken on behalf of our clients. LOM staff always wear Class 3 PPE when on site. When working on council sites, LOM provide Chapter 8 compliant Traffic Management setups with an advance suite of drawings and documentation provided to the local engineers for their approval ahead of any commencement of works. LOM liaise with An Garda Siochana and local authority engineers prior to the commencement of all works.

Our technical teams are committed to providing the most cost effective, competitive, and professional service possible to our local authority clients and this has benefitted both the clients and the company in recent years as the company goes from strength to strength in this area. In December 2023 LOM carried out a surface replacement contract at one of north Cork’s busiest junctions (Kennel Hill Mallow).

The works involved the planing out of 750sq.m of Hot Rolled Asphalt, the raising of 15 services and the relaying of a new Stone Mastic Asphalt Surface – ahead of relining the junction – including an upgrade of 2no existing large yellow boxes. Due to the volume of traffic at the location, the works were scheduled to be carried out by night with a five-night time limit to complete the works.

The works commenced on time to the satisfaction of the client, Cork County Council.

Toll Plaza Pavement Works

In 2023 Lagan Operations and Maintenance were awarded the contract to replace the PQ (Pavement Quality Concrete) and Vehicle identification treadles and macadam approaches to the oversize outside lanes of the N18 Toll Plaza in Limerick. This project required the closing of the outside lanes at the plaza for 10 days while the existing surfacing was removed, reinforced, and relayed using Binder Course material and SMA (Stone Mastic Asphalt) on the approaches and 40N reinforced Concrete at the plaza itself.

The civil works were all carried out using LOM staff with the surfacing being undertaken in this case by a specialist surfacing sub-contractor. LOM provided all the technical supervision on site and the works were completed on site to the satisfaction of the client.

Pharmaceutical Factory Groundworks

In 2023 Lagan Operation and Maintenance were awarded the contract for Phases 1 and 2 of a groundworks contract at the AbbVie Pharma site in Carrigtwohill, Co Cork.

The works on Phase 1 entailed the stripping of an existing site, installation of strip foundations to cater for the relocation of a large portacabin office block, installation of an extensive network of drainage and the construction of footpaths and green areas to cater for staff using the newly constructed office block.

  • In Phase 1 there was also a substantial amount of electrical and communication ducting to be installed on the site – this work had to be completed through an area adjacent to where the client’s staff had to continue their manufacturing operations.
  • In Phase 2, a 9,000 sq.m area had to be prepared for use as a contractor and client carpark. An access road had to be constructed with a retaining wall also constructed on site to facilitate access and egress between the existing compound and the new carpark.

Due to the nature of the work conducted at the AbbVie site there was a very tight timeline on this project with the client clear about the importance of completing the works in 16 weeks or less. Lagan Operations and Maintenance commenced the works with a very short lead in time by mobilising internal staff, a very competent and diligent subcontractor and an internal project management team that brought the project to fruition inside a pre-agreed timeline. AbbVie management and their project management team were impressed with the professionalism and the work ethic shown by all staff inducted into the site and opened their new office complex on time.
