VRS TII Regional Term Maintenance Contract

VRS TII Regional Term Maintenance Contract

O&M awarded 3-year contract covering the largest of the three regions awarded by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

In March 2023 Lagan Operations and Maintenance were awarded the 3-year TII VRS Regional Term Maintenance Contracts– West Region. This was the largest of the three regions awarded and shown in maroon on the map below.

This involves network management of VRS within the selected region including detailed inspections, safety patrols, safety inspections, populating the VRS asset database, management of database, labelling of VRS, repair and/or replacement of damaged and non-compliant VRS, rectification of minor defects and vegetation removal.

VRS Repairs (year one)

200

Number terminals replaced (year one)

48

Vegetation removal (year one)

100,000m2

VRS repairs generally consist of replacing damaged sections of barrier on a like for like basis. Sites for VRS maintenance works consist of VRS locations along the national road network within the West Region comprising Counties Cavan, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Galway City, Leitrim, Limerick, Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo, and Westmeath. This includes all mainline sections, together with approach roads and junctions in the immediate vicinity.

Lagan Operations and Maintenace also fulfil the role of PSCS for the project. As the works are located on live public roads, we also design and provide the appropriate temporary traffic management to cater for vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians using these roads, including approach roads, and ensuring that access to buildings, premises (business and residential etc.) and lands is always facilitated.

To assist TII to contribute to the wider sustainability targets and reduce carbon emissions the Contract states that we shall use zero emissions vehicles when carrying out Safety Patrols on the national road network. Shown below is Lagan Operations and Maintenance EV which used to carry out the patrols on the network:

In year one of the contract Lagan Operations and Maintenace have completed 200 VRS Repairs on the network. In addition to this, 48 number Terminals have also been replaced. Almost 100,000m2 of Vegetation removal has also taken place in year one. Lagan Operations and Maintenance has met all its KPIs while delivering year one of the contract. We continue to strive to reduce our carbon output while the delivering a quality service.
